OFFICE HOURS: Monday- Friday: 6:00AM - 3:00PM
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Physicians in clinical matters and reports to the Practice Manager in administrative matters.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires some sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching, supporting ambulatory patients, pushing wheel chair patients. Able to assist in the lifting of patients onto examination table. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone, surgical instruments, injectables, sterilizer and other minor medical equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal medical office environment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Maintains and protects confidentiality of patient information.
- Assists physicians with minor office surgery, injections, and other clinical tasks as requested by one or more physicians.
- Initiates patient evaluation by obtaining chief complaint, medical history, HPI, ROS and other pertinent history. Also records weight and vital signs (temperature when appropriate), notes current medications and doses, prepares patient for the examination as the ordering physician directs.
- Maintains general appearance and function of the exam rooms and lavatories by maintaining inventory levels and replenishing supplies on a daily basis.
- Triage patient calls for the physicians.
- Escorts patients cheerfully and professionally from the Reception Room to their examination room, promoting efficient patient traffic flow.
- Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining sterile technique in the minor office surgery suite.
- Maintains a neat, pleasant, comfortable, professional patient environment as well as for all of those who work in this office.
- Performs related work as required.
PEFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of medical office procedures including surgery procedures and practices. Sill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to pay attention to details.
Education: High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred. Medical Assistant certificate preferred.
Experience: Two years as a medical office assistant preferred.
Certificate / License: CPR/BLS
ALTERNATIVE TO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A demonstrated balance of equal years education or experience.
